Criminal Defense attorney discussing his experience in court. Substantial assistance is another way of saying that a defendant "rats out" another person. They give up a bigger fish so to speak. This happens mostly when a defendant is facing a long prison sentence. They then offer to give up others, rat them out, so that they may receive a lower sentence. It happens. However, when it happens its supposed to be hush hush and not talked about in open. Well, the world is changing and some defense lawyer and some judge, not for me to say who, obviously did not get the memo. * This is not legal advice. This is my opinion. This is my rant. I have already forgotten the fools that I saw do this in a full courtroom. It is almost comedy. Unfortunately, its not and people can be seriously harmed when they offer substantial assistance. Think carefully before you help the government as you may be risking your life. That is an opinion. Check out the video. Visit our website.
