"The biggest obstacle you will ever have to overcome is your mind. If you can overcome that you can overcome anything."
It took me many years to talk about my childhood. Then I made a video about it but was fearful to show it because I cried.
I showed weakness. Now, I have realized that sharing what was previously my weakness, gives me strength. I can't be hurt by my past. It is an asset. I have overcome great odds. I have journeyed through darkness. I believe in God. I have a wonderful wife. I have outstanding friends. I have mentors. I have a stable job. I have seven wonderful dogs. I believe that overcoming difficulties gives me strength. I accept myself. I know who I am. I can't be intimidated in the street, a courtroom or in life.
I fought through adversity. I made it out of Central Islip, New York. I made the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. I competed internationally in Amateur Boxing and was invited to compete and travel with the USA boxing team. I graduated college and became an attorney. My dark beginning has ended and as I move forward I am in the light. I came from poverty. My biological parents were not good people.
I came from a family that had no belief in God but yet I found Him. I can use my experience to help others. This is one chapter of my life, I have many. It was a dark chapter and scary to some but I believe "what does not kill you makes you stronger." I know that my confidence has grown. I understand that everybody is not dealt a great hand in life, however one can remain in the game and still succeed.
If you have a desire to do something, then you can do it. Why am I posting this? I am posting it because I have gotten past the darkness.
I have so many blessings. I have met so many great people in my life. I really believe that every person I have met has contributed to who I am.
I have observed the good in others. I have watched movies and television shows. Everything remarkable, I have tried to add into my life.
I know that I am not defined by my biological parents, nor my childhood circumstances. I have decided what I want from my life. I am on my own road. Whatever your circumstances, find yourself, you will overcome and achieve. The road is often bumpy but we can all have our best life. If you can conceive it then you can achieve it. It's all about the journey. Enjoy the road ahead. I am Roger P. Foley and I'm good with this.
